As The Flashbulbs Burst

Just had a visit here in the library from my favorite tow-haired lad, who charmed the ladies left and right. I think the pirate hat he wore might have helped with that; call it the blond-Errol-Flynn-Captain-Blood effect.

In related news, I now also have a dirty diaper in my office trashcan. Need to do something about that before I leave tonight, methinks.

I have begun the reworking of my NaNoWriMo novel, in an attempt to get it into shape for Starry, Starry Heaven (favorite numbers six and eleven). I am hopeful about this, in that I will make it better. Or at least, not so embarrassing to show to other people.

Tim's new book, Spell Games, book 4 of Marla Mason series came out earlier this week. Which is fine and dandy, except for the fact that neither my local B&N nor Borders had it. They also never got the third book, Dead Reign in, or Toby's last book, Sly Mongoose, or Scalzi's Zoe's Tale, or Mike Jasper's A Gathering of Doorways, or, or. Book superstores, indeed! Ha! I say again, ha! I shall take my business to the internets! Good day, sirs!

Okay, I was able to get Hines's Stepsister Scheme at my local B&N, but still. For gigamegaconglomco establishments, the two are sadly lacking. Must be related to that whole collapse of the world economy I'm reading and seeing so much about.

Step Aside, Singing In The Rain!

People said I had too much time on my hands when I made Tales of the Plush Cthulhu. Compared to these guys, I'm a rank amateur::

Now just think, you'll have that tune in your head for the rest of the day. You're welcome.

Good Question

It's Monday. How'd that happen? As it is, I find myself in need of caffeine again, considering we stayed up too late watching the Slumdoggernaut trample across the Oscars, and then woke up too early thanks to an inadequate diaper.

In short: gaah.

Took Ian to the pet store to resupply foods for the furballs. The local animal rescue agency was having an adoptathon out on the sidewalk in front of the store, so Ian got the chance to see the puppies. Many, many puppies. Quite the hit, they were. And no, we're not getting a dog. To quote my lovely wife: "Four cats, a toddler, and a puppy? You're killing me."

Amusing anecdote of the day: after we left the store to go wander through the wilds of Best Buy, Ian decided after a bit that TVs were boring and he wanted to go back to the pet store.

As we were walking down the sidewalk, the dogs were barking and barking, the sound of it echoing through the parking lot. Ian looked at me and said, "What are those puppies talking about?"

Have purchased the plane ticket to Starry Heaven. V. exciting, no doubts.

It *Is* The Most Important Meal Of The Day

Here's something I'd not expected to see anytime soon, what with the slow collapse of the economy and all those little things that seem so essential until you're trying to scrape together money to pay the mortgage: Create and make your own cereal.

Let me repeat that. Create and make your own cereal.

This is either genius or another example of eCraziness. All they need to do now is hire Seinfeld as a spokesman, and they're on their way.

The Great Post-Millennial Clusterf@#k Says Hello

Found out that starting in July, I and my fellow non-tenured employees here at Midsized Southeastern University will be getting a day or two off a month. Unpaid, unfortunately, but that's all right. Furlough beats layoff any day of the week. Besides, I look forward to using this extra time to cover my chest in bean dip and snack continuously while watching M.A.S.H. reruns get stuff done around the house.

Calendar Man

I hear tell it's February now, but that seems like crazy talk to me. I am 100% convinced the date is actually January 35th, 2009. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

In the meantime, please enjoy these complimentary unicorns and rainbows.
