Boo

Sorry for the silence. Been wrestling with all things web, for work. The long and short of it is, I've been learning style sheets. Which also means I'll likely implement them in here sometime, so you all can look forward to a nicer space in here. No, I'm not committing to any kind of timeframe. Soon.

No writing responses to report, but a couple things of interest. The publishers for Path of the Just have a preview sampler in PDF out, to catch the interest of anyone thinking of buying the real deal. While my story wasn't included, my bio does show up. Also got my copy of Jason and Janet's chapbook Four Seasons in a Day. One of the sweetest chapbooks I've seen in quite a while.

No big plans otherwise, except to stay home tonight and give out candy. The best thing getting that job is that you can make sure you've got some left over...

Currently Reading: Praxis, Walter Jon Williams's space opera saga. Enjoying it tremendously.

Thursday Cat Shot

If you own cats and have windows, I recommend you invest in a bird feeder. Then set it up right outside one of those windows so your cats can enjoy the free show. And so you can, too.

"AHHHHH HAH HAH ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Maybe."

The Exclamation Point Wars, from Seth Stevenson's column Tokyo on One Cliché a Day, in the Slate. I laughed so hard I thought I might hurt myself. Fortunately, my office door was closed. Another favorite: A Scary Look Into the Japanese Id (thanks, Patrick!).

I'm Up

Well. That sucked. Missed work Monday & yesterday, because there's nothing less effective than a librarian with a head cold. "I'm sorry, can you repeat your question? I couldn't hear you over the pounding in my skull." But my nose has dried up, and while I'm still tired, all seems well again with me. I read practically nothing while laid out, spending most of my time playing Baldur's Gate. Sure, it's less challenging than reading, but it's a definite step up from watching daytime TV.

Aspirin, Please

Ngg. Sick. Headache, sore throat, can't help noticing the presence of my nose, and very very tired. (Update: also unable to spell aspirin correctly.) Polite personal rejection from Strange Horizons, clocking at 34 days. Otherwise, nothing quite like a cold to botch a perfectly good weekend.

Currently Reading: Shadows over Baker Street, a Sherlock Holmes meets Cthulhu anthology. V. good, esp. the Gaiman story, "A Study in Emerald," an alternative world with definite overtones of Newman's Anno Dracula.

Lines

After some slight delay, my poem "Last Night" is now up online at Fables.

Hmm.

Nope, that's all I've got. Oh, all right. Think you've got an annoying job? Imagine what your grandparents had to put up with.

Quality Time With The Fam

It's been a relaxing weekend: my folks came to spend the night, ostensibly for the purpose of celebrating their recent birthdays, but really just 'cuz. Had fun. Grilled out yesterday (gotta love these pleasant southern falls), then watched the Braves force game 5 with the Cubs. We shall see how that ends up tonight (I will admit, I like the idea of the Cubs making it to the World Series, but I also worry that it might be one of the signs of the Apocalypse, of course). This afternoon we did some shopping, then my brother drove up from Macon and we all went out to dinner. Italian. Mmm...garlic rolls... A lovely time had by all.

Currently Reading: The Intracities anthology chapbook. Fine fiction from folks I know (but many I don't). Go buy a copy and you won't regret it.

Return From Black Gate

It's a new record from Black Gate: 8 days, for a quick personal rejection. "Almost," with other nice things said. Wow. In other news, Amazon has updated sales info for Path of the Just. Should go on sale at the end of the month. Whoo!
