Ah, it's the end of the summer. There're a few interesting things in the mail: an 86 day rejection from Lore (boo), the contracts for my story "Eater" for the Such a Pretty Face antho (yay), and the September copy of American Libraries (huh?). Yes, I may not belong to SFWA, but as a card carrying member of the ALA, I receive this publication. Scholarly journals not withstanding, the cover tickled me tremendously: there's a picture of Rupert Giles and Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer on it, and the text reads: "TV's Rupert Giles: Hero, Librarian. While Buffy Slays Vampires, Her Mentor Slays Stereotypes." I love it. Back when I actually held a librarian job (read here: before I moved to Iowa), most of the librarians I worked with watched the show, and they all thought Giles was a great character. He's certainly a much more positive model of librarians than Marion the Librarian from The Music Man. Hee hee.
